Why form a group with us
Shotokan Karate Dojo is a traditional, non-commercial dojo with a clear lineage back to Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda, the “Tiger of Shotokan”. Our focus is on strong basics, correct kata and effective kumite, taught in a safe, disciplined and friendly environment.
If you are an instructor or club who shares these values, you may wish to connect with a like-minded group for support, gradings and technical consistency, without losing your own identity.
What we offer affiliated clubs
Affiliated clubs can benefit from:
- Technical guidance on kihon, kata and kumite in a traditional Shotokan framework.
- Structured gradings with clear standards and honest feedback for all kyu levels.
- Seminars and courses focusing on fundamentals, bunkai and practical application.
- Support for instructors on lesson planning, safety, and class structure.
- Shared resources such as syllabus outlines and training themes.
Who this is for
- Independent Shotokan instructors teaching small groups.
- Existing clubs wanting stronger technical direction.
- New dojos looking for a clear syllabus and grading route.
- Community centres or schools wanting a trusted karate partner.
We are not a franchise. Each club remains responsible for its own venue, fees and day‑to‑day running.
Standards and expectations
To protect students and maintain quality, we expect any affiliated club or instructor to meet basic standards. These can be discussed in more detail, but typically include:
- Traditional Shotokan focus: training broadly in line with mainstream Shotokan practice.
- Safe training environment: appropriate insurance, risk awareness and sensible contact levels.
- Respectful dojo culture: etiquette, discipline and a positive, inclusive attitude.
- Honest gradings: no “guaranteed passes”; students earn their belts through effort and ability.
- Ongoing development: instructors willing to continue learning and refining their karate.

Frequently asked questions
Will my club lose its own name or identity
No. We are happy for clubs to keep their own name and character. The aim is to share standards, support and a common Shotokan direction, not to remove your individuality.
Do you charge a franchise or licence fee
We are not operating a commercial franchise model. Any costs (for example, grading or seminar fees) would be discussed openly in advance and kept reasonable and transparent.
Do I have to change my syllabus immediately
Not necessarily. We would review what you currently teach and agree a sensible path towards a consistent Shotokan syllabus over time, without disrupting your students unnecessarily.
Can you visit our club for a trial session or seminar
In many cases, yes. A joint training session is often the best way to see if our approach and standards match what you are looking for.
What if we decide it is not the right fit
There is no obligation. If, after discussion or a trial period, either side feels it is not suitable, we simply part on good terms.
